Biography
Chao Tian received the B.E. degree in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2000 and the M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Tian was a postdoctoral researcher at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) from 2005 to 2007, and then was a member of technical staff--research at AT&T Labs--Research in New Jersey. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2014, where he is now an Associate Professor. His research interests include data storage systems, multi-user information theory, joint source-channel coding, and image&video processing.
Dr. Tian received the Liu Memorial Award at Cornell University in 2004, AT&T Key Contributor Award in 2010, 2011 and 2013, and 2014 IEEE ComSoc DSTC Data Storage Best Paper Award. He was an Associate Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters from 2012 to 2014, and is currently an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications.
