Simula@UiB is a research company located in Bergen, Norway that focuses on cryptography, computer security, and information theory. The centre was founded in 2015, is owned by Simula Research Laboratory AS and the University of Bergen (UiB), and is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, Simula, and UiB. The overall goal of Simula@UiB is to increase the security expertise in Norway through research and education. For more information about Simula@UiB, visit the web-page
Project Description
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our team of senior and junior researchers in the information theory section of Simula@UiB. The successful candidate will be involved in the project Secure and Reliable Distributed Storage Systems (SARDS), funded by the Research Council of Norway under the FRINATEK initiative. A distributed storage system is a network of relatively inexpensive storage disks (or, nodes). This makes it a practical choice for storing large amounts of data. To ensure the reliability of the data against node failures, distributed storage systems employ erasure correcting codes. However, these storage systems are inherently not secure. Once an attacker gains access to some nodes, he/she can easily gain/modify the information stored on the system. The main objective of SARDS is to design information-theoretically secure coding schemes for distributed storage systems. The selected candidate is expected to start working from 1st August 2016. The duration of the contract will be 2 years .
Responsibilities
As a postdoctoral research fellow, you will work closely with Dr. Eirik Rosnes on designated tasks for the position's duration. The tasks mainly focus on information-theoretic security for distributed storage solutions. The successful candidate is expected to study various security models, propose new (repair-efficient) secure coding solutions, and s upervise and cooperate with master and Ph.D. students.

-
Have a strong publication record.
-
Demonstrate an excellent level of spoken and written English.
-
Possess good interpersonal skills and show willingness to work as part of an international team.
