Vera Stepen Pless, known in our community for her contributions to error correcting codes,  passed away at her home in Oak Park on Monday, March 2, 2020. She was Emerita Professor with the Department of Mathematics at the University of Illinois , Chicago, and a fellow of the American Mathematical Society since 2012.
