Chapter Mission

It is the objective of the IEEE Benelux Chapter on Information Theory to connect people in the Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg) that are interested in processing, transmission, storage, and use of information, as well as in theoretical and applied aspects of coding, communications, and communications networks. Some History

The initiative to found an IEEE Chapter on Information Theory in the Benelux came from Edward C. van der Meulen, who had also been active in establishing the "Werkgemeenschap voor Informatie- en Communicatietheorie" in the early eighties. The Chapter is active since 1990. Edward served as the first Chairman of the Chapter.

Activities

Since 1990 the Chapter co-organizes, jointly with the Werkgemeenschap voor Informatie- en Communicatietheorie (WIC), an annual Symposium on Information Theory in the Benelux and an annual Midwinter-Meeting with tutorial presentations on a hot topic. Apart from that, the Chapter organizes other activities. In 2009 it started a series of Van der Meulen Seminars.
