Toby Berger passed away on May 25, 2022 at the age of 81. He was one of the icons of information theory, recognized with numerous awards including the IEEE Information Theory Society Claude E. Shannon Award.
The Munich Workshop on Coding and Cryptography (MWCC) is a workshop held at the Technical University of Munich lead by Prof. Antonia Wachter-Zeh. Each version of the workshop focuses on different emerging aspects of coding theory and cryptography. This fourth edition of the workshop focused on coded computing and coding for DNA storage and was organized by Rawad Bitar, Andreas Lenz, Luis Maßny, Antonia Wachter-Zeh, Lorenz Welter and Eitan Yaakobi.
Pravin Varaiya has died
Pravin P. Varaiya died on June 10th at his home in Berkeley, CA at the age of 81.

Bob Lucky Passed Away
Robert Wendell Lucky (Bob Lucky) passed away on March 10, 2022, at the age of 86. He was a research engineer and a manager at multiple levels at Bell Labs and Bellcore. Bob was a pioneer and a leader in our research fields and technical societies.
Alexander Vardy passed away on Friday March 11 2022, at the age of 59.

Notes from the Transactions EiC's desk
It is a pleasure to write this first column as Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of the Transactions on Information Theory, a role I took over last July from my predecessor Igal Sason. I would like to extend my thanks to him and to outgoing Executive Editor Erdal Arıkan for all their help and encouragement in my transition. Taking on this role is a great honor and responsibility. The Transactions are a precious element of our Society, a crucial archive of our work.
The Information and Communication Theory Lab (ICT Lab) at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) organized the 9th Van der Meulen Seminar in honor of Prof. Frans Willems on November 5, 2021. The focus of the seminar was the history of Willems' research and its connections to other researchers from the IT Society.
