The 1st Workshop on Information Theory and Coding for Future Wireless was held on August 11 in conjunction with the IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC) 2022, in Foshan, China. The workshop was co-organized by Huawei Technologies and the IEEE Information Theory Society Guangzhou Chapter. The workshop was implemented in a hybrid format to provide the community interactions through on-site technical presentations and online keynote speeches.

This year’s ICCC is themed by Connecting Intelligence, Communications for Future. One of its focuses is the fundamental research in communication engineering. Three keynote speakers of the conference, Prof. Raymond Yeung, Prof. Erdal Arikan (both are Shannon award laureates) and Dr. Wen Tong (CTO of Huawei Wireless), have highlighted the importance of information theory and channel coding in communication engineering, especially for future wireless. In particular, Prof. Yeung introduced the machine proving methodology for entropy inequalities, Prof. Arikan proposed the opportunities and challenges for channel coding in 6G, and Dr. Tong demonstrated some latest industry results towards 6G extreme connectivity, including high throughput and lower power consumption.
