The IEEE Information Theory Society (ITSoc) invites nominations for the position of Executive Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory for an 18-month term, starting on July 1, 2021. It is expected that the Executive Editor (EE) will subsequently transition to Editor-in-Chief (EiC) on January 1, 2023, for an additional 18-month term, ending on June 30, 2024.
The EE works in close collaboration with and under the leadership of the EiC and is responsible for day-to-day submission handling, communication with authors and associate editors, and interacting with Manuscript Central. The EiC retains overall responsibility, and is responsible for producing issues of the Transactions, interacting with the IEEE Production Portal, handling exceptional cases, maintaining a robust Editorial Board, writing reports, and making presentations. The EE and EiC work together with the Editorial Board to define and achieve the strategic objectives of the Transactions.
The successful candidate will have a strong record of research excellence in information theory and related fields, as well as previous Editorial Board experience. The nominee must be a member in good standing of IT Soc. The IEEE Information Theory Society endorses an inclusive culture and encourages applications from candidates that would further improve our diversity.
Nomination letter should include a brief synopsis (up to two pages) of the nominee's relevant editorial and technical expertise, as well as leadership and service record. The nomination materials should be submitted online by February 28, 2021. Self-nominations are permitted. Selection of the successful candidate will be made by the ITSoc Nominations and Appointments Committee, in consultation with the current EiC and EE, and is subject to approval by the ITSoc Board of Governors.
