The tasks of the position include, but are not limited to, the support of teaching activities at the Communications Engineering Lab (CEL) and carrying out independently research in the field of reliable and robust communication systems enhanced by machine learning for multiple applications such as, e.g., Industry 4.0, optical and wireless communications. This includes the mathematical analysis of new data transmission schemes as well as the software implementation of simulation and evaluation tools. Besides this, you are responsible for the documentation and publication of selected research results in scientific journals and conferences. The job is associated with the goal of graduating with a Dr.-Ing. (German quivalent of a PhD) degree.
Personal qualifications
You are in possession of a very good M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering and information technology or communications engineering. You have additionally profound knowledge in communication theory and signal processing, are fluent in spoken and written English (knowledge of German is considered a plus), and you are able to work independently and responsibly. Ideally, you have experience in programming and further knowledge in one or more of the following topic areas: coding theory, information theory, optical communications and artificial intelligence. You have confident manners and are professional in dealing with project partners, students. You are a team player and you are equipped with organizational talent. Ideally, you have experience in one of the following programming/development environments: Python/MATLAB/PyTorch/Tensorflow/C++.

We offer full-time temporary employment with a competitive salary at pay grade TVL-E13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements. The typical duration to get a PhD is 3 to 5 years.
